Center President Tashita akihito
Having had the experience of working for a leading partnership-system office in Washington D.C. and also for a long-established ownership-system office in Japan, Tashita knows the office organization both of American and Japanese patent offices. With that knowledge, Tashita established Tashita International Patent Office with the view of what an ideal patent office should be.
The Tsushima, an Aid to Navigation Survey Vessel
Tashita has a unique career as a maritime safety officer and a radio engineer. He was a crew member of Tsushima, an aid to navigation survey vessel. Tsushima is the only aid to navigation survey vessel in the world, which measures the effective range and the precision of electronic and light wave aids to navigation, which are the road signs of the sea. He sometimes talks about his voyage during the Cold War. “Everyone felt nervous when we sailed in Okhotsk Sea on the vessel." He took early retirement to become a patent attorney, because he thought it would be a good channel for his strengths in communication, machinery and English. He soon obtained his attorney certification.
Soon after I began my own practice as a patent attorney, I got a request from an electronics maker who is still a very important client. That company has the technology to manufacture high-level chips which they deliver to a very famous IT company in the United States. They are the only company in the world who has this technology, so the number of applications for patents they needed was tremendous. I handled about twenty cases and prepared the patent specifications in a week. I was able to do that for I was confident in my physical strength because of my former position as maritime safety officer. I worked hard at this pace for several years. It was worth my while because I was able to bring in about one hundred million yen by myself. To this day, this experience gives me confidence in myself. I would like to create a vibrant work environment that inspires staff members to do their best. Such highly motivated personnel will be properly rewarded.
You might think “I would like to work alone”. I understand the feeling and welcome the ambition. But think for a moment. If you have your own practice, in addition to preparing patent specifications, there are many complex tasks involved. If you partner with me, I'll provide a favorable work environment which will allow you to concentrate and work more effectively. Specifically, for those who aspire to become specifications professionals, I promise to provide the conditions in which you can concentrate on your work and be rewarded for your efforts. For those whose goal is to become an intellectual property professional, I'll make great effort to put you on the path to receiving your patent attorney qualifications and give you opportunities to work abroad.
We seek professionals, preferably certified professionals. We also welcome experienced people who aspire to be patent attorneys. In the future, I would like to hire someone who is well-versed in the field of chemistry. Now we are filing applications mainly in Japan, but also in the United States and the European Union. In the near future, we are going to expand into Asia. In addition, we plan to begin to apply for patents from abroad to Japan. There is great potential here at Tashita International Patent Office. Let’s work together to achieve great things!

After studying mechanical engineering at university, Tateishi got a job with a big electronics manufacturer. As an engineer he was involved in design and development. After five or six years of working, he started to wonder "How long can I keep doing the same thing every day?” He realized his growth potential was limited because he could gain experience in only a limited area. He wanted to "be involved with various kinds of technologies and try various things", but he was unable to fulfill this need through the routine work that he was doing. He also knew it would not be much different even if he went to work for another manufacturer. He asked himself, "What can I do that will allow me to use my existing technical knowledge and experience and, at the same time, expose me to new technology?" He decided to become a patent attorney.
He got a job at a patent office and started to study for the examination to become a patent attorney. After three years, at age 33, he passed the exam and obtained his attorney certification. He had been working for the same patent office, but because he wanted to develop his potential to the fullest, he switched to Tashita International Patent Office.
A word from Tateishi
This company is a great place to work. It is great that I can concentrate entirely on preparing specifications and so on because the administrative staff supports us very carefully and cooperatively. Because I can concentrate on my specialty, I am trusted with a great deal of work. I have a lot to do every day, but I feel that my growth potential is unlimited and depends only on my efforts.
After working for a manufacturer as a secretary, Endo seized the chance to work for Tashita International Patent Office, one of many patent offices with a high degree of professionalism and internationalism, because she could use her previous work experience. She is part of the administrative staff which works behind the scenes. They handle all clerical tasks concerning the Patent Office and the clients. They can be entrusted with all kinds of tasks, including “examination requests”, “annuity payments”, “changes of applicants” and “powers of attorney”, and of course they can handle documents from abroad as well. If there is anything that needs the president's attention, they make sure that he gets it, but otherwise, Endo and the other administrative staff members handle the rest of the tasks. The administrative staff supports the patent attorneys firmly so that they can concentrate on preparing the specifications.
A word from Endo
I take my work seriously. I am responsible for making sure that the center president and the patent attorneys can concentrate on their own work and that the specifications painstakingly prepared by the technical experts result in the successful acquisition of the patent. I always pay close attention to details to make sure that things go smoothly and that we meet the needs of our clients. The administrative staff works together to do whatever we can, such as preparation of documents and drawings, the formality check of the documents to be submitted, deadline management and so on, to assist the experts.

As a patent office bearing pro-patent policies, we will intensify our efforts to offer reliable and high-quality service and to get feedback from our clients. We expect our service officers to have an international perspective, to take pride in their work as intellectual property professionals, and to strive for greater client satisfaction.
We combine the best properties of the partner system in the United States and the ownership system in Japan. The advantage of the American partner system is that we can divide profits rationally and transparently. The advantage of the Japanese ownership system is that we have an excellent work environment where we can devote ourselves to the cases in our charge.

Small Gym on the Fourth Floor
On the fourth floor there is a room equipped with electric massage chairs, various training machines and audio devices. When we prepare patent specifications, we concentrate so much that our brain often freezes. Whenever it happens, it is important to refresh ourselves with a break. The center president, a former maritime safety official, emphasizes the necessity of the balance between the body and the mind. When staff members get tired, they can rest their minds in the gym. Returning to work after a break, they find that ideas take shape and that they can make good progress drawing up the specifications.
